The purpose of the group is to increase road safety. It is done by exchanging experiences on road traffic safety, effective road safety measures and by providing examples of best practices.

The working group will focus on specific themes, including different groups of road users and their needs for traffic safety, road safety and road design on rural and urban roads and key figures of traffic accidents. In addition, the working group will focus on the benchmarking of implementing of the European road infrastructure safety management directive in the Nordic countries.

The working group has been set up for the period July 2024 – June 2028. Norway is the leading country of the working group during that period.
Climate and Environment is the overarching theme for all the working groups during the period 2024–2028.

The group will make proposals for the follow-up on the sustainable development goals in autumn 2024.
