Jonas Eliasson, Director of Transport Accessibility at the Swedish Transport Administration (Trafikverket), has been awarded the Nordic Road Association’s Pedagogical Award 2025 for his outstanding contribution to knowledge dissemination concerning the road transport system.
The vision of the Nordic Road Association (NVF) is “Competence without borders.” As part of this vision, the Swedish national association has, since 2012, presented an annual pedagogical award to an individual or group demonstrating exceptional pedagogical competence within one of NVF’s fields of activity.
A central element of NVF’s mission is the dissemination of knowledge regarding the various components of the road transport system and their practical applications. Educational activities and broader knowledge-sharing initiatives in this field are therefore essential for progress, increased understanding, and sustained professional engagement.
This year’s award is presented to Jonas Eliasson, Director of Transport Accessibility at the Swedish Transport Administration (Trafikverket). Jonas is also a Visiting Professor at Linköping University and previously held a professorship at the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH) in Stockholm.

“This is truly an honour and entirely unexpected. What makes me most pleased and proud is that I consider pedagogy and communication to be of fundamental importance within the transport sector. It affects the daily lives of many people and involves substantial public funding. It is therefore essential to explain how the transport system functions — to students, professionals, decision-makers and the wider public. I have also had the privilege of combining research and teaching with practical work in various public authorities. I hope this may inspire more of my students to pursue a similar path,” says Jonas Eliasson.
NVF’s citation for awarding the 2025 Pedagogical Award to Jonas Eliasson:
His work and research encompass the analysis of efficiency, equity and sustainability in transport projects and policies. This includes cost–benefit analysis of transport investments, decision-making processes within the transport sector, transport pricing in general and congestion charging in particular, transport modelling, public and political acceptance of transport policies, valuation of travel time and reliability, as well as railway capacity allocation.
In his teaching, he distinguishes himself through a clear, structured and engaging approach to communicating complex relationships between theory, empirical evidence and practical policy. He demonstrates a notable ability to make advanced issues accessible to diverse audiences, while stimulating reflection and critical thinking.
